How This Module Helps You
The Tariff Impact Tracker provides visibility into how pricing shifts—whether tariff-driven or otherwise—affect sales volume and competitive positioning. It helps you:
Monitor Category-Level Price Movement
See how average shelf and sales prices are trending across categories.
Track whether increases are driven by assortment mix changes or consumer trade-up/trade-down behavior.
Pinpoint Brand & Product-Level Shifts
Identify exactly which products moved up in price and how volumes reacted.
Detect whether price increases stick or lead to customer leakage.
Anticipate Future Pricing Dynamics
Use average promotion % as a leading indicator of pricing pressure.
Spot when elevated promo levels suggest room for further price drops.
This module turns pricing changes into an early-warning system for share and margin risks.
How to Use the Module
1. Track Avg. Shelf Price
Definition: The unweighted average of all items listed in a category (online or in-store).
Use Case: Monitor how retailer assortments are evolving and where price points are shifting.
Example: A jump in Avg. Shelf Price may reflect new premium SKUs entering the assortment rather than broad inflation.
2. Track Avg. Sales Price
Definition: The weighted average price of sold units.
Use Case: Understand how customers are actually behaving versus what’s offered.
Key Insight: Divergence between shelf and sales price reveals trade-down or trade-up dynamics.
Example: If shelf price rises but sales price stays flat, shoppers may be substituting into cheaper SKUs.
3. Track Avg. Promo %
Definition: The average discount across all transactions.
Use Case: Assess whether volume is being sustained by promotions or organic demand.
Signal: High promo % suggests retailers and brands are using discounting to offset resistance to higher prices, signaling more pressure ahead.
4. Analyze at Category vs. Product Level
Category-Level Tracking: Compare shelf, sales, and promo metrics across subcategories to see where price dynamics are most pronounced.
Product-Level Tracking: Drill into individual SKUs to pinpoint which products are absorbing tariffs or passing them through to consumers—and how volumes respond.
